Additional Information

Initial Sessions and Suitability

Our first session gives us an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you are hoping for and whether I am the right person to support you.

There may occasionally be circumstances where your needs would be better supported by a different service or practitioner. If this becomes apparent, I will explain this openly and, where possible, help you consider appropriate alternatives.

When Another Service May Be More Appropriate

Private psychotherapy is not always the most appropriate level of support. I may recommend a different or more specialist service where there is:

  • An immediate mental health crisis or significant risk requiring urgent support
  • Severe substance dependence requiring specialist treatment
  • A need for psychiatric assessment or multidisciplinary care
  • A level of complexity or risk that cannot safely be supported within my private practice

If I believe another service would be more appropriate, I will discuss this with you and explain my reasons.

Referrals and Recommendations

  • Depending on what you need, this might include your GP, NHS mental health services, psychiatric assessment or a specialist service.

  • Where possible, I will help you consider what kind of support may be most appropriate and how to access it.

Emergency Support

While therapy can support a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, online therapy may not always be suitable for individuals experiencing severe mental health crises or requiring urgent support. If you are in crisis and need urgent support or are worried about immediate risk of harm to self or others, please call 999. Alternatively, you can contact your GP and ask for an emergency appointment or visit your local A&E department. You can also contact the following services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: NHS Helpline (111) and the Samaritans (116 123).

You don’t have to go through this alone.
